In order to prevent, in the case of snow chains which can be put on without having to raise the wheel and without having to engage behind the wheel, the snow chain which has been placed only over part of the circumference of the tyre from dropping off during a subsequent approximately 1/3 rotation of the wheel, and in order also to prevent the end of the chain spanning the inner ring being guided over the tread of the tyre on the outside of the wheel, the snow chain is constructed according to the invention in such a way that the inner ring (1) is constructed as a continuous, essentially dimensionally rigid ring which is connected to the tensioning element (5) which forms the outer circle only via the transverse chain parts (3) and the tensioning element (5) has at its one end a ring (8), through which the other end (5') of the tensioning element (5), which end has a hook (7), is guided. <IMAGE>
