The mechanism has head support arms fixed by clamps to a carriage that can be moved towards and away from the discs. The arms are individually adjustable on the carriage perpendicularly to the recording tracks on the discs. During operation the adjusting mechanism is accessible from the side and it comprises two faces pointing sideways and lying opposite one another on each arm and cooperating faces which are fixed in relation to the carriage. Pref. the latter faces are on projections extending from the arm clamp and the carriage respectively. A shaft of the head carrier arm is made from three layers for rigidity.
