The invention aims to simplify operation techniques with a novel system and to improve the durability and strength of the endoprosthesis anchorage and the tribological properties of the knee endoprosthesis. Femoral stem (1) and tibial stem (2) can be implanted separately before the completely pre-mounted joint part (3) is adapted to these stems with wedge-shaped mountings (4, 5) and secured by screws (6, 7). If there is only a small amount of resection, there is thus adequate space available for implantation. The joint kinematics of the endoprosthesis is virtually matched to that of the natural knee with flexible cruciate ligaments (8, 9), the joint surfaces (10, 11) of the runners (12, 13) always bearing the entire load (punctiform or linear contact is avoided) and separating the rotating movement of the condyles (14, 15, 40) from the linear movement at the tibial plateau (16). This enhances the technical service life of the knee endoprosthesis by improvement of the tribological relationships. In conjunction with the guide rails (17, 18) on the tibial plateau (16) the cruciate ligaments (8, 9) control rotation of the lower leg, just like those in a natural knee. <IMAGE>
