[Also in Divisions B2 and H4] A moving adhesive-coated web, to which a flock coating has been applied, is subjected to pressure waves of frequency 10-150 cps to generate at least one standing wave across the width of the web and vibrating in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane thereof, whereby the flock is oriented substantially in the same direction. The substrate may be a continuous polyfluorocarbon coated sheet to which a heat-setting adhesive latex and nylon flock may be applied; after setting the adhesive-flock layer is removed. The waves may be applied by passing the web over one or more tuned slots in a frustro-conical-shaped acoustical resonant cavity driven by loudspeakers.
