The device for the unnoticed observation of sales areas and for exposing shoplifting has a free-standing pillar (1), in which an observer can be accommodated. The pillar is provided with two-way mirror panes (2) through which the observer can observe the shop without being seen. Advantageously, the pillar (1) has such small dimensions that there would be no reason to suspect the presence of an observer therein. It can also be movable on castors (8) and provided in the lower part with devices (3) for offering articles for sale. <IMAGE>
