A self-bracing spreading anchor having an anchor rod including a retaining shape at the outer end is provided with plate discs (5) consisting of resilient elastic material as anchoring elements which can spread. The plate discs are arranged in a row with the concave side towards the retaining shape (4) and with an inner opening (7-9) on the anchor rod, are guided at least with a clamping seat, or are fixed in another way. Engaging profiles can be arranged on the edges of the plate discs. Such spreading anchors can be used in masonry, concrete, steel-reinforced concrete and the like. <IMAGE>
