An E-shaped or U-shaped magnet core (10) composed of sheet-metal laminates has in each case one short-circuiting ring (42, 44) for at least one limb (14, 16). Each short-circuiting ring (42, 44) is seated in a groove (38, 40) which runs at right angles to the sheet-metal laminates (22) and is held on the pole surface of the relevant limb. In order to improve the retention of the short-circuiting rings (42, 44), in each case one spring clip (60, 62), which is supported approximately in the centre of the core (10), is fitted on both sides of the magnet core (10), the free ends of which spring clip (60, 62) pass through the short-circuiting rings, pulling or pushing in a sprung manner into the groove (38, 40).
