Radar measuring method for detecting obstacles in low flight

In this method, a radiation beam essentially oriented in the forward direction is used which periodically runs through a scanning figure having vertical and horizontal scanning tracks. To be able to evade all appearing obstacles whilst at the same time optimally utilising the terrain contour, the scanning figure should have at least three vertical scanning tracks (A, B, C) which are in each case laterally offset with respect to one another and the signals of which are in each case separately evaluated. From the comparison of the evaluation results thus obtained, commands for initiating lateral evasion movements are derived. <IMAGE>
