<p>High solids content aqueous vinyl acetate emulsions having long term stability are provided by polymerizing vinyl acetate in the presence of a surfactant of the formula <CHEM> wherein: R1 is an alkyl group having from 6 to 18 carbons; R2 is H or an alkyl group having from 6 to 12 carbons; n is greater than 9; and Me is a monovalent cation selected from the group consisting of NH4, Na, Li and K, and water. The quantity of water is predetermined so as to produce a latex having at least 40% solids. Also the production of these emulsions and the stated surfactants are object of the invention.</p> |
