I - Amino - 3 - carboxy - propane - 2 - sulphonic acid is prepared by reacting an alkali metal bisulphite with γ-phthalimidocrotonic acid and hydrolysis of the intermediate of formula for example, with a mineral acid or by conducting the reaction in an autoclave at a temperature of 90-150‹ C. The acid may be converted into an alkali metal salt thereof by addition of the appropriate base. |
