<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate in organic synthesis and for producing epoxy resins which are thermosetting polymers in high yield with suppressed formation of by-products, by oxidizing an allyl ether compound with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An allyl ether compound of formula I (R1-R5 are H, alkyl, aryl, nitro, alkoxyl, amino or carboxyl, etc.; R1 and R2 or R2 and R3 together with C in the benzene uncleus may form an aromatic ring) is epoxidized with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent in the presence of (1) a quaternary ammonium salt, (2) at least one of a molybdenum compound, tungsten compound and vanadium compound and (3) a phosphorus compound at 20-100 deg.C, preferably 40- 80 deg.C to give the aimed substance of formula III. The reaction is carried out in the two-phase system containing an organic phase containing the allyl ether compound and an aqueous phase containing the hydrogen peroxide.</p> |
