Process for joining and welding different plies of a multi-ply strip material by locally limited application of pressure, which effects local penetration of the phases, parallel to the length of the individual plies, and partial lateral spreading thereof and also of the fibres which are not equally aligned. The pressure is applied by a roller (2) having a wide-angle pressure profile, whose diverging sides form an angle of between 3 and 20 DEG with the horizontal plane. The welding step can be carried out continuously, in particular by means of a disc-shaped profiled roll whose circumferential line is formed as a continuous cutting edge or as a broken cutting edge, or in a punctiform manner due to the presence of small cones along the roll circumference. <IMAGE> |
