PURPOSE:To produce guava leaf extract useful as a health food or a raw material of pharmaceuticals, etc., economically in an industrial scale, by extracting the dried and crushed guava leaf with a mixture of water and a primary alcohol or a lower ketone under specific condition. CONSTITUTION:Dried leaves of guava are crushed and extracted with a mixture of water and a primary alcohol or a lower ketone at 50-80 deg.C, and the filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain the objective guava leaf extract. The ratio of water to the primary alcohol or lower ketone is preferably 1:1- 3:7. A high-quality extract having unique flavor can be produced at a low temperature in a short time and high yield by the use of a mixture of water and a primary alcohol or lower ketone as the extraction solvent, and furthermore, the amount of the solvent can be decreased. |
