<p>A process and a treatment for plant for purificn. of waste waters are claimed in which the water for treatment is received in a primary lagoon where sedimentation and anaerobic digestion take place. Effluent from the primary lagoon is directed to a biological treatment unit employing biological discs and thence to a sludge settlement tank which delivers treated water to a secondary lagoon for a final, natural polishing operation. The primary lagoon is pref. divided into a surge chamber at the upstream end and a shallower, regulating chamber at the downstream end, the two chambers being sepd. by a siphonic wall. Sludge from the sludge settlement tank is pref. returned to the surge chamber. Used for continuous treatment of waste waters, partic. industrial effluent, to purify them sufficiently to be acceptable for disposal in public drains, waterways etc. The installation is inexpensive and capable of handling great fluctuation of quantity and/or quality with little variation in the quality of treated effluent.</p> |
