摘要 1500301 Electrochemical generator SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES ALSTHOM 21 July 1975 [19 July 1974] 30479/75 Heading H1B An electrochemical generator comprises reservoirs 1, 2 for fresh and used paste having the property specified below, a passage connecting the reservoirs for the transfer of paste therebetween, at least one inert porous electrode 7 supplied with oxygen or a gas containing oxygen and enabling this oxygen to be reduced, a porous separator 3 in electrolytic contact with this electrode, a second inert electrode within the passage on the side of the separator remote from the first electrode and spaced from the separator, and means 4 for transferring the paste between the reservoirs in such a manner that the paste in the passage contacts the separator and the second electrode, whereby in use the metal is oxidized and the oxygen is reduced in order to produce electrical energy. The paste is composed of grains of a metal (e.g. Zn, Fe, Cd, Pb) and an electrolyte, the metal powder concentration in the paste being such that the grains are in close contact with each other and the quantity of electrolyte in the paste is just sufficient to fill the interstitial spaces between the grains. It may also contain solid lubricator to improve its fluidity (e.g. PTFE or graphite powder), a substance such as graphite, carbon black or a metal to increase its conductivity, and (for Zn paste) some Hg to increase conservation and reduce self-discharge. As shown, it is moved by an Archimedes screw 4. The electrolyte may be aqueous or non- aqueous, alkaline (e.g. KOH), saline or (for Pb paste) acidic. The separator is an isolating porous wall 3 (e.g. microporous polyvinyl chlorate or polyethylene, or non-woven polypropylene) and is surrounded by a porous conductive sleeve 6 formed of a metal web, a carbon filling agent and hydrophobic link member. The oxygen electrode may comprise a porous carbon leaf or plate with a PTFE sealer and a catalyst (Ag or C). The second inert electrode may be made of metal or graphite. The oxidized paste may be converted back to its original form by passage through a device similar to the above; the same device could in fact be used.
