PURPOSE:To improve the cycle life of an alkaline zinc storage battery by binding a zinc active material with a fibrous connection network of a fluorine resin and causing alumina fibers to exist in the connection network to make a zinc electrode. CONSTITUTION:Zinc oxide is combined with mercury oxide and alumina fibers 4. The thus prepared mixture is then combined with water and a dispersion of a fluorine resin such as polytetrafluoroethylene, then the mixture is kneaded while giving shering force. Next, after the kneaded mixture is rolled into a paste sheet, the paste sheet is brought into contact with the surfaces of a negative current collector before rolling and pressure fixation are performed to make a zinc electrode 1. In the thus made zinc electrode 1, the alumina fibers 4 are tangled with a fibrious connection network 2 of the fluorine resin. A storage battery constituted by using the zinc electrode 1 prevents any increase of the density of the fluorine resin fibers regardless of repeated charge and discharge since the alumina fibers 4 work as sleketones. Consequently, a path for the supply of electrolyte is secured and the supply of the electrolyte is smoothly performed. |
