PURPOSE:To obtain a thin gas electrode having excellent strength and life as well as a maintained superior electrode performance by fixing a film containing fluorine over one surface of a gas-side plate during the sintering of a temporarily molded gas electrode. CONSTITUTION:An active agent principally consisting of carbon powder is combined with an aqueous suspension containing a fluorine resin to prepare a carbon paste. Next, the carbon paste is dried and pulverized to make a powder which is then applied only to the electrolyte-side surface of a metallic current collector net 2 made of a member such as Ni before the thus obtained body is subjected to pressure molding. After that, the thus molded body is sintered to make a gas electrode consisting of an active layer 1 and the metallic current collector net 2. Next, a film 3 consisting of a compound containing fluorine such as a fluorine resin is placed on the gas-side of the net 2 of the gas electrode. After that, the thus obtained body is resintered to cause the film 3 to adhere to the metallic net 2, thereby making a gas electrode (A). Since the gas electrode (A) has a small internal resistance and electrons easily move within the electrode (A), it is possible to increase the performance of the battery. |
