<p>The method of reducing harmful products in the exhaust gases of a multiple cylinder engine which incorporates a catalytic converter in the exhaust pipe ahead of the silencer uses a control system so that the exhaust valve operation is regulated for each cycle so that the temperature of the exhaust gases is increased. The time of start of valve opening is regulated by the temperature of the catalytic converter. Preadjustment of start of opening takes place above a set temperature level and is not used when the temperature falls below another level, except under full load conditions and on starting.</p> |
