1353831 Irradiating strip material ARMCO STEEL CORP 5 July 1971 [15 July 1970] 31313/71 Heading D1L Apparatus for irradiation of a moving strip having a coating of a radiation-curable substance on only one surface thereof comprises a coating station 12 for applying the substance to the strip in an uncured form, a chamber 10 having a radiation section 16, restricted strip entrance and exit openings 22, 32 to permit passage of the strip through the chambers, means e.g. roller 24, 26 adjacent the entrance and exit openings to change the angle of the moving strip twice by at least 20‹, this means cooperating with the coating station to prevent physical contact with the coated surface between the coating station and the exiting of the strip from the chamber, an electron accelerator 30 disposed within the radiation section 16 substantially normal to the strip and means communicating with the radiation section through additional restricted openings to prevent the release of stray radiation e.g. separate entrance and exit sections. Reference is made to the coating of steel strip with curable polymeric material. |
