The invention relates to a so-called external walking mechanism which is arranged between the floor bars of adjacent support assemblies. The walking mechanism comprises two guide bars arranged at a lateral distance from one another and two walking cylinders arranged above the guide bars. The guide bars are connected in a connecting head at the front end. A bridge is connected to the two guide bars at a distance behind this connecting head. The two walking cylinders act with their piston rods on this bridge. The walking cylinders are connected at a distance behind this to the floor skids via connection brackets, the connection brackets forming bar guides for the guide bars.
