An ashtray 1 for motor vehicles consists of an element made from plastic 2 comprising a case 3 which is open on one face 4 and intended to be mounted in a corresponding housing inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and a flap lid 6 obtained by moulding, in a single piece, at the same time as the case 3, and assembled to the case 3 at its lower part, by a thin film hinge. The flap lid 6 carries, on its face turned towards the inside of the case 3, two lateral flanges 9 each of which has a curved slot 10 in which two fixed studs 11 carried by the case 3 are engaged.
