1276610 Hardening steel products BALFOUR DARWINS Ltd 8 Oct 1970 47879/70 Heading C7N Steel is hardened by austenizing in a high temperature barium chloride base salt bath followed by treatment in a bath containing caustic soda or mixture of sodium hydroxide, sodium nitrate and calcium chloride to equalize the temperature, then quenching to room temperature. The quenching may be carried out with first hot, then cold, water; completely in cold water or in air. The steel may be pre-heated in air and/or salt. After quenching, the steel may be washed in hot or cold water with ultrasonic vibration, dipped in acid and/or rinsed in hot water containing a rust inhibitor. |
