The paper sheet (3) input via an inlet plate (2) into the envelope-filling machine (1) is provided with a Z-fold by a rotatably arranged pusher (4) before it is pushed into an envelope by the downward-displaced pusher. If the paper sheet (3) is of insufficiently large format to be able to be folded, it is gripped by the pusher (4), rotated through 180 DEG , and by an insertion flap (32, 43) connected to the latter and is pushed into the envelope by the downward-driven pusher (4). By the use of a channel (5, 6, 9) provided on the envelope-filling machine (1), address labels (10) can be introduced for packing with the letters or forms (3) which are provided with a fold by the downward displacement of the pusher (4). By means of the envelope-filling machine (1), stationary and forms or the like can be packed individually or in combination, as desired. <IMAGE>
