The hearth of the fireplace is delimited by the water-bearing double casing (1) which can be connected by pipes to a heating system. The water-bearing fireplace insert, consisting of pipes (2) and collecting pipes (3, 4) is detachably connected to the same or to another heating system. The fireplace insert forms at the same time the firing grate (2') for the material to be burned. The smoke gases are cooled with air in the double-walled chimney (5), the surrounding space being heated additionally. As a result of the present design, the fire heat and the ember heat are used extensively for heating purposes. <IMAGE>
