PURPOSE:To achieve a function of a tension member, to prevent trouble due to brittleness of an optical fiber, and to enhance resistance to breakdown and fatigue, by arranging plural specified polyoxymethylmethylene fibers around the optical fiber having a protective layer. CONSTITUTION:Plural polyoxymethylene (POM) fibers 2 having a modulus of elasticity of at least 30 GPa, a single fiber thickness of <=50 deniers, and a birefringence of >=0.090 are arranged around an optical fiber 1 having a protective layer. The outside of the fibers 2 are wounded with a winding film 3 of nylon or the like, and further coated with an outer cover 4. In such constitution, the POM fibers 2 sustain the tension exerted on the optical fiber as a tension member, and protect the optical fiber from damages, such as breakdown and bending, during laying the cable and using it. Since the linear expansion coefficient of the POM is low, and comparatively near that of quartz, the optical fiber hardly causes microbending, and it can avoid increase of loss. As a result, the obtained light transmitting cable has strengthened resistance against breakdown and fatigue. |
