In a method of producing a lid having a pouring opening which is covered by a tear-off strip, in particular a lid for cans containing carbonated drinks, before the tear-off strip (8) is applied, the pouring opening (4) is covered by at least one film strip (5) and the latter is then melted on so that an edge bead (7) is formed at the edge (6) of the pouring opening. A puncture in the film strip (5) prior to melting-on enhances the even formation of an edge bead (7). The film strip (5) is preferably applied to the inner surface of the lid (1), covering the pouring opening (4), and melted on, and the tear-off strip (8) is then sealed onto the outer surface of the lid (1), during which process it bonds with the edge bead (7). <IMAGE>
