Method and device for feeding internal-combustion engines with liquid gas (propane/butane)

This invention describes a method and a device which is especially suitable for operating internal-combustion engines with liquid gas (propane/butane). It comprises an annular chamber around the intake port, the shape of the cross-section being of no importance for the intake port. The essential feature of this invention lies in the fact that the vaporised liquid gas is led parallel to the flow of combustion air. This is achieved in that the annular chamber has outlet apertures which guide the gas in the required direction. The advantage of this invention lies in the fact that not only carburettor engines but in particular also injection engines function perfectly according to the new method. It was found that when this device is fitted in engines which work either on the carburettor principle or on the injection principle, no conversion or modification of the engine setting of any kind is necessary. Measurements have shown that the full engine power is maintained without any increase in fuel consumption. This is confirmed by exhaust measurements which prove that an especially complete combustion of the gaseous fuel fed in takes place. This invention is especially valuable in that harmful exhaust gases are reduced to a minimum. In addition, this fuel does not require any addition of lead tetraethyl, which completely avoids this especially toxic environmental pollutant.
