Flange connection subject to extensive high temp. wear comprises a throwaway auxiliary flange which is attached to the sealing surface of at least one of the permanent flanges by means of screw bolts. Appts. is used for the connection of immersion lances to steel outgassing vessels, where the flange surfaces are subject to severe wear.
