PROCESS FOR PREPARING CATALYST COMPOSITION FOR USE IN HYDROCARBON CRACKING

A catalyst composition for use in hydrocarbon cracking is prepared by spray-drying an aqueous slurry containing air stream-baked alumina obtained by bringing aluminum hydroxide produced according to Bayer's process into contact with a 350 to 700C hot blast for a time within 5 seconds, kaolin, a silica-based matrix precursor, and crystalline aluminosilicate. When used in catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon, this catalyst composition shows excellent selectivity with respect to production of heart cut such as kerosene and gas oil because of the presence of the air stream-baked alumina and kaolin in addition to silica-based matrix and crystalline aluminosilicate.
