The already finished cross-wound bobbins contained in the buffer magazines (10 to 17) of the cross-wound bobbin production units (2 to 9) are automatically transferred in successive batches to a circular conveyor (48) by means of bobbin transferrers (61 to 68). The number of cross-wound bobbins belonging to each batch and delivered to the circular conveyor (48) is counted and recorded automatically. This is carried out by means of a programmable data-processing device (59) in conjunction with sensors (77 to 86). The path of the counted and recorded cross-wound bobbins belonging to a specific batch and located in the circular conveyor (48) is followed automatically as far as the reception point (34), and the cross-wound bobbins are then kept ready in an orderly manner at the reception point (34) for further use. <IMAGE>
