In a trough mangle having a predrying device (18), the predrying of the laundry articles (W) is carried out by means of fresh steam and/or trough-condensate expansion steam. The steam flows through the laundry articles resting on a conveyor band (32) or the like and is subsequently sucked off by a suction device (58).
