Program protection device used by a computer which is one-piece or connected to at least one peripheral terminal. This device consists of a box (1) connected to a serial output of the computer (2) and containing a memory (19, 20) for storing a plurality of "response" codes (R), each of the "response" codes (R) being associated in a one-to-one manner with a "question" code (Q) emitted by the computer (2), and a microprocessor (17) for detecting the emission by the computer of each "question" code (Q), in order to retrieve from the memory (19, 20) the "response" code (R) corresponding to the "question" code (Q) detected, and to re-emit this "response" code (R) towards the computer (2).
