PURPOSE:To reduce odorous smell remarkably upon normal fire extinguishing and extinguish fire quickly upon emergency fire extinguishing by a method wherein the descending position of a wick upon fire extinguishing is set in at least two stages. CONSTITUTION:The wick 10 exposes the tip end thereof into a combustion chamber 5 to a position A during burning the fuel to vaporise and burn it while the tip end of the wick 10 is descended to either one of the position B or the position C upon extinguishing fire. The position of an air ventilating hole 12 is set at a position lower than the upper descending position B and higher than the lower descending position C of the tip end of wick 10. According to this method, smell is reduced remarkably upon the normal fire extinguishing by setting the descending position of tip end of wick at the upper position B while the fire may be extinguished quickly upon the emergency fire extinguishing by setting the descending position of the same at the lower descending position C.
