A short circuit transfer arc welding machine is provided which includes a sensor for detecting a voltage developed across the base metal and the wire electrode, and a switching element is controlled so that the application of current is started when a voltage detected by the sensor reaches a value corresponding to short-circuiting and is ended when the voltage reaches a value corresponding to arc reproduction.
