1478742 Bismuth-containing antacids GISTBROCADES NV 17 Jan 1975 [18 Jan 1974] 2146/75 Heading A5B A solid bismuth-containing powder for use in the treatment of peptic ulcer is prepared by spray-drying an aqueous, colloidal solution comprising bismuth citrate, ammonia and a non-toxic polyhydric alcohol e.g. sucrose or maltose, to produce a dry powder. Pharmaceutical compositions for oral administration comprise (1) the dry powder optionally together with pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier(s) and may be in the form of tablets or capsules or (2) a liquid obtained by dissolving the dry powder in water. The liquid starting material optionally contains pepsin, a colouring agent such as carmine, an alkali metal (e.g. sodium or potassium) hydroxide and a preservative. |
