An apparatus for the separation of relatively heavy foreign bodies, e.g. stones and gravel, from less heavy bodies, e.g. sugar beets, conveyed in a liquid stream, comprises a circularly cylindrical screening drum 1, adapted to rotate, with its lower portion immersed in the liquid stream, around a substantially horizontal shaft 4 running in the direction of the liquid stream. Ring bodies are fastened to the inlet, as shown at 2, and outlet openings respectively of the screening drum 1, each said ring body serving as a kind of bucket conveyor. In each ring body channels 10 are provided running along the periphery of the body between openings 12 in its outside and leading to openings 11 on the inside of the ring body. At the inlet and outlet openings of the drum respective chutes 3, 33 are situated with their upper ends within the openings in the respective ring bodies which chutes are adapted to receive and carry away the stones or gravel falling from the buckets 11 on the insides of the ring bodies. A fin running along a helical line around the cylindrical wall of the drum has portions extending internally and externally of the screening drum 1. <IMAGE> |
