PURPOSE:To form a uniform layer of a developer on the surface of a developer carrier by supporting an elastic body for developer layer formation which is pressed against the developer carrier rotatably around its lengthwise intermediate part as a fulcrum. CONSTITUTION:The developing device is equipped with the developer carrier 35 which carries the developer T on its surface and the elastic body 36 for developer layer formation which is pressed against the carrier 35 and performs development while putting the thin layer of the developer T formed on the carrier 35 opposite to the image carrier 2 moving relatively. The elastic body 36 is supported rotatably around its lengthwise intermediate part as the fulcrum. Thus, the elastic body 36 is pressed against the carrier 35 in surface contact with part of the opposite surface of the carrier 35, so the developer T is rubbed under pressure for a long time, and a uniform, sufficient frictional charge is obtained. Further, the intermediate part of the elastic body 36 is supported in a freely oscillatory state, so it is pressed against the image carrier 35 lengthwise uniformly and the thin uniform layer of the developer is formed on the surface of the carrier 35. Thus, a developed image of good quality is obtained. |
