A guide channel (11,13,16,19) is provided for a cord (C) for movement of the latter to a magnetic head (20). The head is spring-loaded towards the channel so that positive contact is made with a magnetic track (PM) on the card. A carriage (4) moves against spring pressure and is fitted with a stop (41) for the card and a contact head (50). The head contacts an electronic chip on the card in a position defined by the stop and the bottom (15) of the guide channel. Restraining devices simultaneously hold the card against the stop, the base of the channel and the contact head.
