The mixer comprises a circulator 1 connected to a mixer stage with transistor 6. The circulator 1 comprises at least three gateways, a first gateway 2 is supplied by a first wave of frequency FOL, a second gateway 3 is coupled to an output of the mixer stage with transistor 6 by way of a coupling element 5, and a third gateway 4 forms the output of the mixer. The stage of the mixer with transistor 6 is excited by a second wave of frequency F1 to deliver on the third gateway of the circulator a translated wave of frequency FS = F0 + F1 and/or FS = F0 - F1. The coupling element 5 and the mixer stage 6 are matched in order to return a negative resistance to the second gateway 3 of the circulator in such a way that the power gain of the mixer, representing the ratio between the power of the wave exiting via the third gateway of the circulator to the power of the wave applied to the first gateway of the circulator, is greater than one.
