Improved process for the synthesis of 1-butene by ethylene dimerisation.

Process for the synthesis of 1-butene by dimerisation of ethylene in the presence of a catalyst formed by the interaction, in a hydrocarbon medium, on the one hand, of a trialkylaluminium with, on the other hand, a mixture of an alkyl titanate and of tetrahydrofuran in proportions close to stoichiometry. The activity and the selectivity are better than when tetrahydrofuran is employed as solvent in the dimerisation reaction.
