The tubular casing (1) and cap (18) are both decorated on the external surface. A mechanism moves a writing tip axially and an operating element (button) (21) for the mechanism is workable from the outside. The cap is connected to the casing via a friction coupling (25,26,26'). It can be adjusted by a nut acting on a stack of springs (27), which enables the cap to be turned relative to the casing about the longitudinal axis of the writing implement, in order to line up the decoration correctly.
