Such metallurgical reaction vessels, in particular steelworks converters, are provided with an internally cooled outlet protection which is connected to a cooling channel system and built up on a front ring which is fixed to the vessel shell and extends perpendicularly to the central longitudinal axis of the vessel and to which exchangeable outlet rings in one or more parts are fixed. To avoid distortion stresses and to limit wear of the parts exposed to the exit gas heat or to the so-called slag bears, it is proposed that the outlet protection is divided into an uncooled, radially inner outlet ring (14) and a forcibly cooled, radially outer cooling ring (6). A convenient embodiment is designed in such a way that, in the radial region (5) of the front ring (4), an outer cooling ring (6) is provided which, relative to the central longitudinal axis (3) of the vessel, by means of axial outer spacers (7a and 7b) and together with the front ring (4), forms a front spacing chamber (8) in which cooling tubes (10) are arranged, and that an exchangeable inner outlet ring (14) in one or more parts is joined via additional axial, inner spacers (13) to the front ring (4). <IMAGE>
