Active parts (6) of such transformers normally contain a multiplicity of insulating parts consisting of hygroscopic material whose volume is dependent on the moisture content. The active parts (6) are thus dried before installation in a transformer tank and the windings are pressed, especially in the longitudinal direction. According to the invention, the pressing of the active part (6) which follows the drying takes place in a climatic chamber (1) with dry air, and the dimensions of the windings which are achieved in this way are fixed directly in the climatic chamber (1) by means of mechanical aids. In addition, in this case, the active part (6) remains in the climatic chamber (1) until immediately before it is installed in a transformer tank, and the transformer tank is filled with cooling fluid directly after the insertion of the active part (6). The method according to the invention for preparation for final assembly of the active parts (6) is particularly expedient in the case of transformers having rated powers of several MW and/or for rated voltages above 100 kV. <IMAGE>
