Electrostatic spray process and rotary atomiser

The apparatus is for electrostatically assisted spraying of an electrically conductive liquid, especially an aqueous plant protection liquid. So that the liquid supply container and the liquid feed system can be at earth potential in spite of electrical charging of the sprayed liquid, the liquid is fed to the atomiser disc, which consists of electrically insulating material, at its axial centre and at earth potential and is only brought to a high voltage once at the spraying edge of the atomiser disc, by means of a contact electrode. The liquid to be sprayed is spread out into such a thin film, by a high rpm of the atomiser disc, that because of the very small cross-section of the liquid film, its electrical resistance value between the spraying edge of the atomiser disc and the feed point of the liquid bridges over the potential difference between the high voltage potential and the earth potential with a loss current of at most 2 mA.
