<p>Electrolytic deposition of Ni, Co or Ni/Co, Ni/Fe, Co/Fe or Ni/Co/Fe alloys, comprises passing a current from an anode to a cathode, in an aq. acid soln. contg. >=1 Ni or Co cpd. opt. with Fe cpd., the soln. also contg. 5x10-6 mol. to 0.5 mol/1 of a cyclic sulphone of formula (I): (where R1-4 are each H, lower alkyl or OH) for a sufficient time to form an electrolytic coating on the cathode. The cpds. are brightening agents which may be used in high concns. enabling a thin coating to be applied without any adverse effects on the deposition. They also overcome the problem of Fe cpd. solubilisation when Fe is also used.</p> |
