In the area of the shaft installation in the submerged part of the hull, steering plates are pivotably arranged in front of the propeller. When the vessel is moving astern, the propulsion stream of the propeller is directed via these steering plates. This results in a lateral thrust, which considerably increases the manoeuvrability.
