Drive connection to the front wheels of an agricultural tractor

A drive connection to the front wheels of an agricultural tractor is described which contains a propshaft connecting the manual transmission to the differential gear accommodated in the front axle beam. The propshaft is enclosed by a protective tube in order to prevent grass and straw from coiling round it, which tube has such a small outside diameter that the ground clearance of the agricultural tractor and the lock angle of the front wheels is not restricted compared to conventional drive connections without a protective tube. The small outside diameter of the protective tube is obtained in that the idler shaft of the propshaft is reduced to that diameter which is absolutely essential for transmission of the torque. For stepping up of the critical whirling speed of the propshaft, the idler shaft is supported by way of an anti-friction bearing approximately in the middle of the protective tube. The protective tube is supported on the front axle beam side and transmission side by way of spherical and slide joints directly on the front axle beam and/or the transmission or by way of antifriction bearings arranged in the vicinity of the joint on the intermediate shaft. <IMAGE>
