<p>Plant virus growth is suppressed by applicn. to the plant foliage a sufficient amt. of copolymer(s) of maleic acid, maleic anhydride or fumaric acid with a monomer selected from (i) divinyl ether, (ii) allyl 2-18C monocarboxylates and (iii) olefins of formula CH2=CRR1 (where R1 is 1-18C alkyl; 1-2 ring aryl opt. substd. by 1-12C alkyl; 3-12C cycloalkyl; all opt. substd. by Cl, Br and F; R is H or R1; R and R1 together contain is not >18C), and their half-amide-half-acids or half-amide-half-nonphytotoxic salts, their partially or completely hydrolysed esters, and their nonphytotoxic salts.. Partic. for protection against Groups, 3,5,8,10 and 11 viruses, esp. sugar cane mosaic virus, sugar beet yellows virus and tobacco ringspot virus. Also useful for protection against plant viroids such as potato spindle tuber viroid.</p> |
