A candle has a candle body which is free of a textile wick and, inserted in the upper side thereof, a recessed wick unit with a capillary ceramic central wick part and metal foot. The wick part makes a transition, at the foot end, into a hemisphere, which has the metal foot on its underside in the form of a hemispherical cap. The recessed wick unit possesses a centre of gravity which lies below the sphere centre of the hemisphere. <IMAGE>
