The invention relates to a switching device having a switching element (8) which is connected on the one hand to a device which is to be operated and on the other hand to a drive means. The switching element (8) is connected in an articulated manner to a lever (4) which is arranged essentially tranversely with respect to the movement direction of the switching element (8). The lever (4) is mounted on a fixed-position bearing (3) such that it can be pivoted with its one end, and can be guided with its free end over a curved track (26, 27). The curved track (26, 27) is provided on a body (25) which is arranged such that it can move against a restoring force and is likewise movable at right angles to, or virtually at right angles to, the longitudinal axis of the switching element (8). In the event of a movement of the switching element (8) in the direction of its longitudinal axis, the free end of the lever (4) is guided over the curved track (26, 27) of the spring-loaded body (71) and, after reaching its limit position, is held in its assumed limit position by the curved track (26, 27) (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
